Profile Peace is part of the Founder Institute 2017 Chicago Summer Program, and this blog post will share the following 3 key takeaways after graduating the program:

1) Sharing your ideas openly and receiving honest feedback is valuable.
The tendency for an entrepreneur to want to keep a business idea private is understandable, but it is usually a fear-based mentality. Sharing ideas openly with others in the Founder Institute has resulted in meaningful feedback and improvements to my business. Great ideas that can help real people should be shared, and keeping ideas to yourself can limit your opportunity and potential to succeed.

2) Building a company is an ongoing process that requires perseverance.
While graduating from the Founder Institute is an accomplishment, it is only an early milestone in a long journey ahead. It takes perseverance to show up every day and work hard at making your business idea into reality. Learning how to handle the good and bad in stride, and still showing up willing to work hard is critical. Entrepreneurship requires intelligence, but it equally requires emotional resilience.

3) A peer network can help you perform better and reach a higher potential.
Watching my fellow founders improve their pitches and businesses each week has been a valuable dynamic and healthy motivator to push further, work harder, and grow quickly.  Also, learning lessons directly from mentors who have experienced real-world business success has been a powerful driver that encourages a belief that you too can achieve your mission and vision as an entrepreneur.
